Malaysia is a country of Southeast Asia, composed of
Peninsular (Malaysia on the West) and East Malaysia on the island of Borneo.
Malaysia was named Federation of Malaya before achieving independence. On Aug. 31, 1957, the Federation of Malaya achieved independence (merdeka) under an Alliance government headed by Tunku Abdul Rahman as prime minister. To celebrate the independence day, stamp depicting the late Tunku Abdul Rahman and the people welcoming independence was issued. 10 years after the event, another issue was made to commemorate the event.
